If you’re in the market for your next property, look no further than the small suburb of Wentworth Point. With ample rental demand, proximity to the CDB, a waterfront location and a cute village feel, it’s equally as popular with both investors and owner-occupiers.

Wentworth Point is an Inner West suburb occupying part of a peninsula on the southern side of the Parramatta River, and just west of Rhodes and behind Sydney Olympic Park.

It was established in 1999 as Homebush Bay, when the area underwent a massive transformation from an industrial hub to a residential suburb. It was renamed Wentworth Point in 2009.

Despite its short history, Wentworth Point has developed at a fast rate and is well served with an abundance of shops, waterfront, parklands, and infrastructure.

The suburb, which is in the geographical centre of Sydney and renowned for its fantastic sense of community, offers everything you need, without the hustle and bustle of its louder sister suburb, Rhodes.

Located at the start of the suburb, is the Waterfront Estate, the true jewel of the area. It is well-positioned near parkland including the popular Promenade, close to the main roads and even has its own little shopping village (The Piazza).

Here’s everything that Wentworth Point has to offer!

Schools

There are several schools in the area. In the immediate vicinity is Wentworth Point Public School, with the closest high school a suburb away in Concord. Within a 5km radius, there are also a variety of top private and religious schools across all faiths. Selective schools can be found in nearby Auburn, Ryde and Parramatta.

Wentworth Point Public School is a 15-minute stroll along the peninsula from The Waterfront Estate.

One of the best options for getting into the city is the ferry, with Sydney Olympic Park terminal being conveniently located at the northern tip of the peninsula. Regular services run to Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Parramatta.

The suburb is also served by the 533 and 526 bus services. The 526 bus services Wentworth Point from Burwood to Rhodes and the 533 bus services Wentworth Point from Chatswood to Olympic Park.

In terms of roads, the area has very quick access to both Parramatta Road and the M4, as well as the newly built WestConnex which will get you into the CBD in no time.

Dining

Wentworth Point has plenty of food options. Pierside Shopping Centre and Marina Bay offer fantastic options such as Turkish, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and Sushi.

Sydney Olympic Park has all of your essential big-name food franchises such as McDonald’s, Oporto’s and Subway, just to name a few. There are even more options across the bay in Rhodes, as well as the ever-popular Rhodes Phoenix for Yum Cha.

The Piazza, right in the heart of the Waterfront Estate offers Italian, Thai, and a couple of cute cafes, perfect for a lazy weekend breakfast.

Entertainment and recreation

World-class entertainment and recreation is only a step away. At Sydney Olympic Park, there are over 35 kilometres of cycling and walking paths and scenic boardwalks within beautiful parklands. Also, the area hosts some of Sydney’s biggest events from sporting to music. There are a host of other activities for both children and adults.

There are heaps of options for movie lovers, with cinemas situated at Rhodes and Lidcombe. Lidcombe also offers Ten-Pin Bowling.

Closer to home, the Waterfront Estate’s Promenade provides residents with a perfect spot for exercise, dog walking, biking or just playing with the kids. In the Piazza, there is also a gym with tennis courts, an indoor pool and lagoon – exclusive to residents of the Waterfront Estate.

Nearby, Bay Park playground provides the perfect area for kids to climb and even offers water play.

The local (and very active) community host regular events in the Piazza – from BBQs to movie nights.

Kayaking and rowing activities are also popular in the area.

Future infrastructure

Whilst Wentworth Point has seen a lot of development in the last 10 years, there are still many infrastructure plans in the works. These plans include:

  • Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 – with a stop being proposed in Wentworth Point

  • new 3.9-hectare park with a playground, barbeque facilities, toilets, exercise hubs, public art, boardwalks, cycleway and viewing platforms overlooking the Parramatta River.

  • New state-of-the-art club rowing club

  • Potential new marine facilities, which could include boat storage and repair, a marina, and rowing and kayak launching facilities.

Employment

The area ranks high for employment options. Indeed, a 2017 study found the Inner West to be the best-placed area in Sydney for employment, shopping centres, schools and hospitals.

Parramatta CBD, Rhodes and Ryde are all areas of high employment featuring global companies. All 3 suburbs are close and easily accessible. This includes the medical, educational, corporate and industrial sectors.

Residential choices

Apartments in Wentworth Point offer something for everyone, from studio living to spacious luxury. Within the Waterfront Estate section where almost all development is complete, you can find really good-sized units. In addition, this pocket has not been infiltrated by high rises.

The Waterfront Estate features a huge common space with parks (including The Piazza), gaps between buildings, gardens and 24/7 onsite security. The Pulse Club offers exclusive resident access to the gym, pools and other sporting facilities. With all this to offer, competition for property will be very high in this part of the suburb.

With great offerings for retirees, families and young couples, this little harbour suburb, just 25 minutes west of the CBD, is truly one of Sydney’s sleeping giants. Make sure you get in and grab your slice of Wentworth Point before its roar awakens the crowds of Sydney.
